One of the parts of Indonesia’s health policy is affected by the World Health Organization (WHO). It started at the end of the 1970s. Even though it slowly showed some progress, healthcare in Indonesia still needs to improve it in several regions. One of the main reasons is that the trickiness to spread equal healthcare access for every citizen.
Some highlighted health issues in this country need government attention. The examples are malnutrition and starvation that poor people mostly experience. They tend to experience those things because of the difficulty to have access to hygiene housing, clean water, and nutritious meals.
Besides hunger and starvation issues, the infrastructure of health still has a lot of things to improve. There are a lot of people who ask for a reform regardless of how huge Indonesia is. The reality is that it takes a lot of time to have equal access to health care for every household.
The first demand is to build hospitals and health clinics, especially in remote areas. The Indonesian Ministry of Health stated that the numbers of hospitals in 2018 are more than 2,000. It means that one hospital should accept up to 100,000 citizens who have health issues or want to check their health condition. The problem is inadequate of beds in hospitals, so the consequence sometimes is a lack of service when there is an urgent situation. It can be fatal. https://powerlinkings.info/tips-for-a-healthier-life/
The second demand is about building more public healthcare centers. Healthy life expectancy in Indonesia needs support from the existence of health centers. These are the places where essential healthcare can be accessed. People can check their health conditions like their blood pressure and get vaccinations. Women who are pregnant also can check their babies here and get vitamin supplements. People who get accidents can have fast treatment to treat the wounds. Even though the doctors in health centers usually come only particular times, there are enough trained nurses who can help a lot of people.
Those demands are still in progress. People are hoping that the Indonesian Ministry of Health put them as a priority. Meanwhile, the government released general health insurance while developing more health access. It introduced the first time in 2015.
General insurance has helped hundreds of people to get access to treating their health issues. In 2018, there was a newer version of insurance called Health card. It only gives basic coverage for the holders. The reason why it offers basic coverage is due to the small amount of money per month.
That’s why people who suffer from chronic and severe diseases have difficulty getting optimal care from the doctors, especially if they don’t have enough income to pay the treatment. Another issue related to the Health Card is the availability of doctors and hospitals to handle the patients. The report said they were only around 130,000 doctors in Indonesia that were far from the overall population.
Healthy life expectancy in Indonesia maybe is still low. However, the government has been trying to promote a healthy lifestyle and provide health centers as many as they can.
